A work permit refers to the authorization required for foreign nationals to work in Thailand, whether for business, employment, or other activities. According to Thai law, foreigners entering Thailand for work purposes must apply to change their visa type to a Non-Immigrant Visa “B” or Business Visa. Once this change is approved, they must then apply for a work permit. Without a valid work permit, foreigners are not permitted to work in Thailand legally.

If a foreign national has already obtained a Non-Immigrant Visa “B” but has not yet applied for a work permit, they can submit an application for a work permit themselves within 90 days of their arrival in Thailand. This application is processed through the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour. It’s important to note that this process grants temporary permission to work according to Thai regulations. For initial work permit applications or renewals after expiration, the procedure must be followed accordingly to maintain legal work status in the Kingdom of Thailand.
